Course Overview

Effective team leadership and project management involves working effectively with people: colleagues, reports, more senior managers, stakeholders, customers and suppliers. Being able to achieve results and being able to fulfil responsibilities at operational, team and strategic levels requires a set of skills that enable the manager or leader to get the best from all the people they work with. In order to achieve maximum potential, team leaders and project managers specifically need to develop an ability to communicate clearly and effectively. This requires a high level of self-awareness and sensitivity to the impact of their behaviour on others - as well as an ability to respond confidently and professionally in a range of situations, including those that are difficult or stressful.

This course will enable delegates to develop specific communication techniques which will be invaluable to team leaders and project managers in a wide range of workplace situations. It will clarify the characteristics and consequences of three main categories of behaviour within the assertiveness model: passive, aggressive and assertive and will give the opportunity for delegates to reflect on their current style/s and to develop practical strategies for creating more positive outcomes.

It is particularly recommended for team leaders, project managers, supervisors or managers who would like to fulfil their potential, get the best from their teams, and/or would like to improve their confidence and credibility to deal more effectively within a range of different situations at work.

Assertiveness AssessmentH2 Assessments & Tests

In addition to the face-to-face element of the training, we also offer an optional on-line psychometric test, which can be completed as a self-assessment or as a 360 degree appraisal of the 26 Assertiveness Competencies that have been determined to under-pin effective performance and career success. Whist it is entirely optional, the assessment is extremely useful for enhancing self-awareness and for providing a focus for on-going learning and development. The test can be completed at any time, and includes a comprehensive printed report for future reference.

One-to-One Training

As an alternative to attending an open course with delegates from other organisations, we also offer "Assertive Communication" as individual training on a date of your choice. Feedback from delegates who have had a one-to-one session is extremely positive, as it means that you can have the undivided attention of one of our experienced trainers, and can therefore make sure that the session is entirely focussed on your individual needs/interests.

Our standard one-to-one training includes a flexible combination of face-to-face and telephone sessions. Most popular is a half-day (4 hour) face-to-face session either at your work premises, or at a convenient local venue, plus two one-hour telephone sessions - one before and one after the training. The telephone sessions help us to ensure that the face-to-face training is tailored exactly to your needs and that you are able to put your learning into practice to make real improvements to your performance at work.

The cost is dependent upon the location and duration of the face-to-face session and we offer discounts for two or more sessions. For example, our standard one-to-one training with the face-to-face session in Central London costs £600 +VAT.
